Nuclear
We have extensive experience dating back to 1991 in providing Civil, Structural and Architectural design services relating to major nuclear and defence projects. Our technical staff possess a wide range of engineering expertise particularly in relation to the analysis of extreme environmental and abnormal hazards including dropped loads, impact, blast and earthquake engineering, often in support of complex safety case submissions within these highly regulated industries.
Commercial
Our Commercial Department specialises in the civil and structural design and implementation of commercial, retail and leisure based building structures. Because we understand the key drivers behind these business sectors, we can deliver economical, functional and inspirational designs that seamlessly meet the needs of our Clients and the end user.
Infrastructure
Our Infrastructure team specialise in unlocking the potential of often complex development sites by providing imaginative but practical design advice that satisfy the requirements of both Clients and the wider project stakeholders in terms of the physical, economic, social and environmental impacts of their projects. We undertake a wide variety of work including highways and external works designs, drainage infrastructure design (including SUDS), flood risk assessments and utility appraisals.
Marine
Sanderson Watts Associates have excellent capabilities in the design of port and harbour facilities in both defence and commercial shipping sectors. We can provide safety case assessments for essential maintenance and change of use on life extension, port side infrastructure upgrades and modifications to suit new vessels and facility management requirements.
Structural Surveys
Structural surveys form an integral part of our business. Our highly professional surveyors have extensive experience in carrying out structural surveys and site inspections in the most challenging environments, across all industry sectors.
Rail
Sanderson Watts Associates has an expanding role in the rail industry built on the foundations of our excellent civil and structural engineering portfolio across the nuclear and commercial industries. We can provide a comprehensive civil and structural engineering service combining design, implementation and commissioning on a full spectrum of rail related projects ranging from minor structural repairs through to complex multi-million pound infrastructure projects. Our core services in this sector include:
- Redevelopment, remodelling and improvements to existing station facilities.
- Design of new stations.
- Structural inspections and repair schedules (platforms, bridges, tunnels, embankments, cuttings).

We are a civil and structural engineering consultancy whose aim is to achieve cost effective and quality design solutions that fulfill our clients’ needs. Our technical staff are experienced in solving unusual engineering problems especially those associated with safety related nuclear, marine and defense establishments. We provide the full range of civil and structural engineering services from project concept through to detailed design and construction drawings.
We work closely with our clients helping to establish their requirements, challenging and examining options, carrying out feasibility/cost studies, preparation of complex analytical finite element modelling, site inspections and appraisals, preparing final design drawings, specifications and safety case documentation.

Works Commence on new BMW Chigwell Development

We are pleased to announce that the erection of the steel frame has commenced on BMW new Workshop and MOT facility in Loughton.
The project involved the redevelopment of an existing industrial site to create new state of the art workshop facilities for use by Sytner BMW. The existing site comprises of four existing industrial buildings to the north of the site.
SWA were commissioned by Edge Property Consultants on behalf of Sytner Group as Civil & Structural design Consultants for the proposed Workshop and MOT Facility development in Loughton.
The development within the Main Contract comprises the re-establishment of the pre-existing industrial ‘Victoria Building’ into a dry valet and car coding facility. It is also proposed to construct a lightweight external jet wash facility directly adjacent this existing structure.
